FAQ

  • Which boats do you use for whale watching?

We use Power ribs 8,5m with 250-300 hp engines. 12 passengers can join this boats:

We also use a power catamaran which is more comfortable and takes 19 passengers.

  • When we go whale watching can we swim with dolphins?

The dolphin trips are different. We take less people on board and we use a smaler boat. Max 8 passengers are on board.

  • Can we swim or snorkel with whales?

The azorean law forbids to enter the water when whales are around. You need to be a photographer and professional and request a filming permit to work with whles under water. You can check our professional section.

  • Do i see dolphins under water when i book a trip to snorkel with dolphins?

Usually we see dolphins under water. Our skippers are experienced to read the behavior of the anmals and take 2 passengers at a time into the water. We rotate on board.

  • Which level do i need to dive with you?

We offer dives for any kind of certification. As we do a dive day on easy spots around Pico with everybody that arrives we will find out your level and you can dive with us accordingly.

  • Can i dive Princes Alice Bank , skarks or other deep sea spots as an OWD or less than 50 dives?

We do not take anybody to advanced sppots without a check dive day. Thats 2 nornal nice dives on easy spots around Pico. Than we decide where we can take you.

We will not accept bookings without the normal check day as we want safety first and you to enjoy the Top spots as much as you can with confidence!

  • Can i book a complete package with Pico Sport?

Yes we can offer all services on the Island to you as we are a licensed tour operator. We also have rooms, rental cars, scooters, do island tours and climb the mountain. We can plan and arrange your complete trip.

  • Can i dive and climb Mount Pico?

The mountain is 2351m high. Thats the same altitude like a flight and you need to respect the decompression time after diving. So please plan enought time for your stay at Pico and it can be done.

  • How many days shall i plan for my dive holiday in Pico?

All depends on the weather. Therefore think if the diving is your main priority for the holiday. If you want to dive Princess Alice Bank and the sharks you need 1 more day for the check day. As we do not go daily to the top spots there is time in between to explore the Island and see the whales. If you also want to climb the mountain we should plan this at the beginning of your stay but also this is weather depending. So the minimum stay its 7 nights plus.....

  • Can i combine Pico and Santa Maria for diving

Yes, this can be arranged. If we start at Pico we shall plan the last day of your stay with a whale watching or land tour as you need to fly betrween the islands. We can offer you the perfect combination. Please contact us.

  • Can i snorkel with Mobula Rays?

Yes, non divers can enjoy this great experience during our trips to Princess Alice Bank from Pico or to Baixa Ambrosius from Santa Maria Island.

  • Do i bring my own diving equipment or can i rent?

Bit diving centers in Pico and santa Maria are well equipped. But if you plan a full diving holiday we recommend to bring your own gear.

  • Why shall i book a dive liveaboard?

During our liveaboard tours we visit the top spots only and we stay there. We are not in a hurry. Imagine to do 6 dives at Princess Alice bank to get the full experience and go into the water for the best tide times and situations.

  • Are your liveabaords comparable to Maldives or Galapagos?

No, we operate smaller luxury yachts with 3 cabins. The short season in the Mid atlantic do not allow the investment in huge safari boats like you know from other places. But you dive in a micro team of max 6 divers and this boats take you to the top spots to enjoy the best spots at the best time. Please read the boat spcifications and come for Top diving. Do not book this trips if you come for a comfortable modern big safari cruise boat !!!
