THERMS AND CONDITIONS FOR MOUNTAIN CLIMBING
Pico Island Adventures Lda. and the contracted partners and guides reserves the right to cancel activities without prior notice due to weather conditions that compromise the safety and well-being of the participants, as well as the quality of the activity performed, or even for reasons of force majeure. In this case we may suggest an alternative date or activity, being subject to availability, or if the customer wishes to proceed to the reimbursement, the 14-day refund period applies from the day the contract is concluded, without the contract having been provided.
Cancellations made less than 1 week in advance and up to 4 days, or due to problems with air or maritime transport, 50% of the deposit will be retained for operational costs. Cancellations within 72 hours prior to the start of the activity will be charged 80% of the amount. For cancellations in the previous 48 hours or No-Show will be charged 100% of the activity.
Children under 10 years old are advised to do this activity in a private group. The same situation applies to adults over 60 years old and who are not used to practicing physical activities. Pico Island Adventures Lda. reserves the right to request a physical exam and respective medical certificate to guarantee the health conditions to perform the mountaineering activity.
During the high season and in the months of June to September, after the activity is confirmed and the reservation is made at the Mountain House by Pico Island Adventures Lda., to guarantee the places of the participants, the value of the access fee to the Mount Pico Natural Reserve (25€ per person) will always be retained even if the activity is canceled due to weather conditions and if the client does not have availability to reschedule a new ascent or even if the client cancels the activity in advance. We act in accordance with the Mountain House procedure regarding advance bookings due to the load capacity defined by the competent authorities (200 people in simultaneous and 320 people within 24 hours). The amount may be reverted to the client in case Pico Island Adventures Lda. is able to use the paid reservation for a new date (depending on the availability offered by the Mountain House) and in case the Mountain House gives a positive opinion to refund requests due to weather conditions that do not allow the activity to take place safely. Normally the inquiry and response process take 2 weeks. The retention of the value of the reservation in the Mountain House does not apply to residents of the Azores, since in these cases there is the exemption of the payment of this fee.
All participants must have a good physical condition and motor coordination to participate in the Mount Pico Climb and it is imperative to inform Pico Island Adventures Lda., before confirming the activity, if any of the participants of the group have physical restrictions, especially in the lower limbs, fear of heights (vertigo), mental restrictions, heart problems, asthma problems or respiratory sensitivity, diabetes or other type of health limitations, and must not have done diving 24 hours before the climb. We also inform you that participants with a sedentary lifestyle will not be able to do the Climb Mount Pico activity. For adults over 60 years old and who are not used to practicing physical activities, Pico Island Adventures Lda. reserves the right to request a physical exam and respective medical certificate to guarantee the health conditions to perform the mountaineering activity. For any situation, we always suggest physical and mental preparation in advance.
To participate in the climb, it is imperative that each participant respects the instructions of the necessary equipment in the informative PDF sent upon the booking conclusion. The use of hiking or mountain boots is mandatory and essential to make the climb. If the participant does not respect the informed requirements and is not properly equipped, will not be integrated in the group, and will be charged 100% of the price of the activity.
Pico Island Adventures Lda. informs that it is the client’s responsibility for the good condition of the equipment to make the Mount Pico Climb, particularly the condition of the hiking or mountain boots. The participation in the activity may be denied if it is evaluated that the footwear is not in condition. For these cases we advise not to use old equipment or in a state of degradation.
After 30 minutes of climb, if it is verified that the participant does not have the necessary and fundamental physical preparation and motor coordination to complete the activity safely and on time, it will be the guide’s decision to exclude that person from the group to guarantee his/her safety and physical and mental well-being, without harming the rest of the activity in group context. In this case, 50% of the value of the activity will be charged. In case of withdrawal at any other time, the full amount of the activity will be charged.
Regarding refunds or adjustment of activity values, the 14-day refund period applies from the day the contract is concluded, without the contract having been provided.
